Hermès: Twilly d’ Hermès

If there’s one thing Hermès does well, it’s bags. And printed silks. Ok, there’s also jewellery and shoes and even SLGs. Ok, let me rephrase this. Hermès does many things exceedingly well, so when they launch something new, everyone sits up and takes notice. Take the new Twilly d’ Hermès fragrance for example, created by Christine Nagel who’s the in-house perfumer of the French luxury label. Her third fragrance after Eau De Rhubarbe Ecarlate and Galop d`Hermès, this scent is perfect for the young, the young at heart and everyone else who believes that a life well-lived is one that has no boundaries and the freedom to do what you choose.

Encapsulated within the reimagined (and iconic) lantern bottle that was deliberately ‘cut into half’, much like the young girl who raids her mother’s wardrobe and literally alters the clothes within to her own liking, this scent is for the lady who marches to her own beat. And like the emblematic silk twilly that it was named after, you don’t just wear it one way. You can wear it however you choose, all in the spirit of taking something and making it truly your own.

And because it is an Hermès scent, you’ll already know it will be a unique one, with ginger, tuberose and sandalwood coming together to form a scent that starts sweet but gradually matures into a fragrance that only gets better when it is enhanced by the warmth of your skin. The lively spiciness of ginger, the feminine elegance of tuberose and the tender milkiness of sandalwood, all beautifully woven together with a personality much like the young girl of today who’s playful, individual and almost irreverent.

Available in Singapore from 28 August 2017, the Twilly d’ Hermès EDP is priced at SGD107 for 30 ml, SGD159 for 50 ml and SGD221 for 85 ml.

Hermès Saddle Box

Ever so often we’d stumble into the Hermès store and get lost in there, falling in love with just about everything that we don’t necessarily need, but most definitely want. And one particular area that contains the most unusual of wants has got be on the 3rd floor of Hermès’ Liat Tower flagship that houses equestrian-related pieces for the working stable, but if you were to look a little closer, you’ll spot something that will also work beautifully for the modern apartment of today.

Simply known as the Saddle Box, it’s something that’s usually used to store horse feed in the stable. In our world, however, this would make the perfect storage container for all our random household objects, whilst looking chic all at once. Measuring some 32.5 wide by 37 cm for the one in Small, it also comes in Medium and Large, with the latter coming in 43 cm by 63.5 cm. In other words, you could even use it as a side table beside the sofa or even as a nightstand.

Available in a range of beautiful colours, Feu (a nice warm orange), Khakiand Navy, they are made of reinforced recycled cardboard that’s finished with metal lids on both ends with a pair of canvas straps adorned with bridle cowhide. Priced at SGD620, SGD840 and SGD1100 respectively for the 3 sizes, they aren’t exactly cheap by say, Ikea standards, but they are definitely worth it because a) you don’t want to be the every second person in the world to own a Lack side table, b) this will good look in any corner of your room and c) hey, it’s Hermès, ok?

Now that you’re convinced that you need 1 (or all 3) for your home, here’s the not so good news. Consistently sold out at Hermès (though we hear there’s a small Feu over at Liat Towers), the best thing you could do for yourself (and your home) is to head down anyway and put yourself on the wait list.

Hermes Bolide Bag

Introducing the Hermes Bolide Bag. The Bolide bag dates back in 1923 when Emile-Maurice Hermès created this handbag for his wife that will be used for an automobile event in Paris. This is the first handbag to ever use a zipper. It is a domed top handle bag with a zip around closure. It also includes a removable leather shoulder strap.
The Birkin and Kelly Tote are the two superstars signed to the company Hermes. They are ‘exclusive’, even men wants to say the words: ‘forever’ to them. And to get a piece of this iconic, either phone the god of luck or get on the waiting list, well only if it’s still available of course.

But next to the Birkin or Kelly, we do get a lot of positive response about the Bolide Bag. Some say that it is one of the classic bags that Hermes has ever produced – giving complimenting on its beauty, ease of use and versatility.

A feminine shape for everyday, simple yet impressive, details on the little stitches – the Hermes stitches, in single colors and then refined with silver hardware, especially the iconic Hermes lock stands out like a charm.

Hermes Bolide 31 Bag: 31 x 24 x 12 in cm(W x L x D)
Hermes Bolide 35 Bag: 35 W x 28 H x 15 in cm (W x H x D)
Hermes Bolide 45 Bag: 45 x 36 x 23.5 in cm(W x H x D)
Since I added an Hermes Bolide bag to my closet a few years ago, I’ve become convinced that it’s one of the best and truly  classic bags that the brand has ever produced. It’s incredibly versatile, beautiful (though I give the top marks to the Kelly for beauty), and easy to use. My own bag was a little black version (see the review here) with silver hardware in the 31cm size – and I loved it!

Last year however, my mom mentioned that she liked my Bolide, and decided to “take it over” for awhile. Don’t we all love our moms? Mine is notoriously difficult to shop for, so I was thrilled to finally have an item that she actually wanted. After a while though, I missed the bag, and thought I would add another. I wanted black, but was very hesitant to get the exact same bag again…as sometimes my mom and I “share”. So when I had an opportunity to add a black Bolide, but in a larger size, I was very happy to do so!

With my new larger size, I thought it would be the perfect chance to do a size comparison between the 31 and 35 size (borrowing back the 31 from my mom for a day!).
Overall, I am a fan of the Bolide in the 31 and 35 sizes, and think that both of them can have a place in most wardrobes. To me, for someone of my height and tolerance for weight, the 31 is much more of a day purse, while the 35 is a work and travel sized bag. If I could only have one, it would still be the 31 – but I know that many think the same as the 35.

I hope that this was a helpful post for some of out there who might be thinking of adding a wonderful Bolide to your closet! I would recommend this bag in either size, any day!

If you choose for Hermes, do not think even for a minute about bragging. Showing off is not the typical Hermes way of fashion. That’s why you never see oversized logos, exaggerated colors, accessories that scream for attention.

Hermes simply does not need to design such things.

This brand is about luxury, feminine, minimalistic and elegant. The leather alone is sufficient proof for others to see that it’s made from the best quality. It’s effortless, you do not need to brag. If anyone ask: ‘What’s that?’, you simple respond: ‘Oh this is a Hermes’ (with a smile), and that’s all what they need to know.

Hermes is one of the few designer brands that I admire, whatever they do, quality is always the top priority. The Birkin and Kelly are still made in the same way, with the same materials, even though the price increase regularly, but you never get disappointed because of the leather.

Here I present you the Hermes Bearn Wallet. It’s a long wallet with a simple exterior design, but the silver ‘H’ logo on the strap is enough to make us drool. Measuring 7’ x 3.5’, crafted from goatskin or Epsom calfskin, and lined with lambskin.

You can find 5 credit card slot in the interior and 2 additional pockets. The signature ‘Hermes Paris’ has been printed in the center. It also comes with a zip pocket to store all your coins.

A functional wallet for your designer bag, it comes in four different colors: Aztec blue, Izmir blue, Orange or black.
